ESCAPE

sneaking down the hall out the door... freedom
heart pounding in my chest as i run..... i"m ten
slow to a walk almost to the edge of town
a truck sits empty keys inside i look around

a figure off fishing, life is good for him I'm sorry
hands shaking tears in eye I'm driving I'm chary
steering wheel huge cant see over made it 15 miles
i park there's the bridge leading to exemption i smile

cross the bridge don't look back you cant save her
drink from  the stream feel the breeze  and savor
no more beatings, no more locked rooms or rape
feeling taller with every step leading to escape

  2. A true story in a poem. If only you could tell it all!
